I Don't Love Black Castor Oil
I have a confession. I do not like black castor oil. You will never see it in any Curl Collection product. I know this comes as a shock, but hear me out.
I need to clarify. I love cold pressed castor oil. What I don't like is BLACK castor oil and how it's made. Black castor oil is made from the ash of castor oil beans. To make black castor oil, the beans are roasted causing them to turn black and create ash. When the oil is extracted from the roasted beans, the ash gets into the oil. This process gives the oil a darker color and the burnt smell. I believe, roasting the castor beans heats up the beans causing them to lose nutrients (similar to cooked veggies vs. raw veggies). Adding ash to oil taints the purity of the oil and irritates sensitive skin and roasting the beans depletes nutrients resulting in a lower quality oil.
Cold-pressed castor oil is made by taking the beans and mashing them causing the oil to be released. This method preserves all of the nutrients because the beans aren’t heated and the oil doesn’t contain any additives. Pure castor oil is the most beneficial to your hair and skin, which is why it’s the only type of castor oil used any Curl Collection products. The next time you think about using castor oil choose pure cold pressed castor oil.
